Miss Brown Summit 1947

Gelatin silver print | 4.5 x 8 inches | "White's Studio, Greensboro, North Carolina" wet stamp on verso | fair vintage condition

Browns Summit, alternately Brown Summit, North Carolina, was named in 1863 for Jesse Brown, who acquired land there in 1858.

Even though Browns Summit remains an unincorporated area today, nearly 70 years ago it had a significant enough black population to mount a pageant. Makes you curious, no?
